Who is Meg and why has she been added to the Life in Bemmy website? Let me tell you!
Meg learned the basics of knitting from her mum when she was about four years old. She had occasional input from an aunt and later on she got help from YouTube.
She was born creative and was making things almost as soon as she could pick the materials up and was very disappointed when creativity times came to an end, especially when exams started to intrude.
So how did a hobby become a business?
At the beginning of the Covid Pandemic in 2020 Meg was working as part of the Blood Service within the NHS. She began an online shop in January 2021 and in October that year she opened the Cannon Street shop which she ran single handedly for a year.
When she began to recruit her workforce she didn’t advertise which, if you know Meg even slightly, that’s typical of her. Meg gathers people around her and knits them into a living garment. So Meg’s lovely staff began as customers that are fantastic knitters and therefore a perfect match for the shop.
The move to East Street happened in October 2024 and the shop is doing brilliantly. Even in the recent heatwave nothing stops a knitter!
No Frills Knitting has a diverse customer base – nanas, mums and even a little terrier that pops in from time to time to say hello. All are welcome!
I asked Meg what three things would describe her best and she revealed that those are KnitPro Symfonie knitting needles, a hot water bottle all winter long in the shop, and pain au chocolate, preferably from Hart’s Bakery.
With a personality as big as the range of stock she carries it’s well worth a trip to the shop to meet her.
If you can’t knit and would like to learn get down there, if you can knit and want to see a wonderful range of goods then get down there.
You can find her and her lovely staff at 76 East Street, BS3 4EY.
